when we did the Birmingham tourney it was two games in one day, and it was dangerous. Even one game is bad... I dont know if you've experienced it, but it was registering at 135-140 degrees on the actual field... so saying, suck it up, doesn't make it okay. And you complaining won't make a difference either. So if its too hot for you, then stay home show me where I complained... all I did was express how hot it was and that it could get to dangerous levels again this weekend. Hydrate your kids and hope for the best this weekend... I'd hate to see a story on the 6 o'clock news about a kid being hospitalized or worse...

Maybe State Cup was better off in Columbus after all... Everyone was so hell bent on getting it moved out of Columbus without realizing that there isn't another complex in the state (excluding NMCP) that can host the tournament. Everybody was clamoring for turf fields but forgot that this Georgia in May. Average temperatures for Memorial Day weekend are over 85 degrees. Add in the fact that its turf fields and that temperature rises significantly. Yes, Columbus was absolute hell when it comes to taking advantage of people by overcharging for rooms, but it was still a better overall experience. Now, it just feels like a regular tournament. Agreed! If State Cup was treated like it should be and not just another UFA Rec tourney I doubt numbers would have dropped so much. But who wants to spend all that money just to play on turf in nowhere Forsyth. Heard quite a few teams that were looking at beach tournaments now as end of year events because they still want the team bonding end of year experience Columbus offered.

So if its too hot for you, then stay home I agree- it’s one game per day. I actually find this forum quite funny at times because for years people always posted complaints about going to Columbus, then last year Cobb County saved the tournament by allowing GA Soccer to use their turf fields, and now people think it’s goig to be too hot! It’s Georgia in the summer, nothing more nothing less. The main thing that folks need to realize is that you have to get your player to hydrate hours before they play. Once they are on the field for warm ups it’s too late.

Why does everyone feel the need to travel to play soccer. There are plenty of teams here in the metro to offer a very competitive tourney. 1.5 hours per day on turf is way better than traveling to Columbus for state cup. Best decision Ga Soccer has made in a really long time!

The irony of calling Forsyth 'nowhere' while advocating for Columbus...

No GSA or SSA teams represented. Fewer Concorde, NTH and UFA teams. So minimum 5 teams per age group/gender?

I know the general idea was that we should all “suck it up” with regards to the heat and turf, but I think we should look at everyone who is involved in state cup and fear for their safety, referees especially.
They’re out there doing 3 games a day on those fields. Imagine how it’ll feel for them!

Everyone bring coolers full of ice and bags for them to ice on the bench!
